limites Romani
Limĭtes Romāni
The name of a continuous series of fortifications, consisting of castles, walls, earthen ramparts, and the like, which the Romans erected to protect their possessions along the Rhine and the Danube from the attacks of the Germans. Its whole length was 350 miles, between Cologne and Ratisbon. Part of it was a huge stone wall, of which extensive portions still remain. See Rhaetia.
